Women Ready to Wear, NY Fall/Winter 2010

The Dona Karan Woman circa 2010

This busy bee is watching the world fashion fall winter shows and spots on the trends that you can buy now but also use later. Remember: classics with a twist and updates in the detailing is all it takes to punch up your wardrobe. Plus we want clothes to last, and we vote off throw away fashions.

From NY fashion week, Fall/Winter 2010 take notes:

Drapes in dresses, shirts and skirts. It is flattering, forgiving and classy

Body hugging dresses are still going strong. If your figure is good, try getting a knitted one.

Slim black pants are here to stay. For younger girls with killer gams try leather leggings paired with funky knits & heels.

The military trend will continue in the fall. Go for trousers or  a jacket, but don’t wear them together.

The plait is a classic design with a twist: invest in a jacket and wear it with everything.

30s type of suits are still on trend. Quite flattering and very feminine suit most body types.

These were my favourite shows. Check them out:

    Diane von Furstenberg

By far, this was my favourite collection! Everything worked: the suits, the dresses, the combinations. I wish I could buy it all. Thank you Diane for reminding us what fashion is all about: fun, design and most of all clothes we can fall in love with.

    BCBG Max Azria

Draping, draping, draping. Simple silk beautifully cut geometric dresses which one can wear alone or layered on top each other. Very flattering, versatile and new twist on the modern classic, this collection can be worn from 18-108 year old women.

    Cushnie et Ochs

Two directions in the collection will win the heart of every girl: if you like dresses, there are beautiful draped, black body hugging and shorter hems to choose from. If you are more of a trousers girl the designers suggest that you go for a slim line black pant or leather leggings, a dressed up knit and a funky roomy coat with an unconventional collar and you are covered.

    Jen Kao

If you like figure hugging knit mini dresses you need to look no further. She is a master.

The military pant with a nice fitted jacket won my heart in this collection. Quite a loose fit but very flattering it will soon be everywhere on the high street. The signature plaits were cool too. Everything needs to be worn with heels to keep the look chic and sleek.

    Organic by John Patrick

I love the suits in this collection, mix and match with endless combinations. Pair your suit with high-heeled oxfords to add elegance and comfort.

    Kimberly Ovitz

This was one of my favourite collections so far, beautiful draping in tops, jackets and knits, simple ad chic dresses which can be worn from morning to night. If you need a capsule wardrobe, this collection ticks all the boxes. Bravo!

    Betsey Johnson

Betsey offers some beautiful designs with ruffles, 30s suits and dull skirts this season. There were interesting combinations of bright green and yellow, which truthfully only look good if one’s complexion is very fair or very dark. Her signature boho looks still go on strong.

    Dona Karan

The fashion house which has dressed all working women and styled them to be fabulous in office wear and not only, completed 25 years of existence. Its signature black colour is  made fresh again with ruffles, exquisite detailing and fantastic outwear.
